The Sony Combo DVD/VCR came out of the box and was installed with ease. The setup for the DVD/VCR was easy to follow and worked fine. This is not the 1st DVD/VCR owned, but was one of the easiest to install.
Our RCA DVD/VCR lasted for only 3 years. I would hope that the Sony will out perform the RCA. Who knows in this day and time of electronics what quality you will fine.
The Sony was packeged as well as any electronic equipment I have ordered off of the internet. It was wrapped in a great deal of bubble-wrap. It would have been hard to have damaged the product without intentially trying to damage the product.

I got this to replace my old dvd vcr combo. I wanted the multi read dvd player for my home made dvd's. As an added bonus it also reads jpeg disks. As to all the negative reviews, I read all of them found them to be without merit. Every complaint was that the vcr had no tuner. I have a satellite box and if I wish to tape programs I use the satellite to do so. However I have no need for this as I have a dvr with my satellite service. To those who objected to the absense of a tuner, why would you purchase this product not knowing what that meant? Besides, in 2009 when the broadcasters switch to digital, everyone will need a separate digital tuner anyway.Customer Review: Works Great If You Know What You Are Doing

I read with interest all the negative reviews. The unit works fine for me, but, in addition to my 1970's television, I have an RCA ANT1250 antenna, an INSIGNIA brand digital converter, and a NEXXTECH brand RF Modulator. I also had a problem with the ENTER key not working until I read in the booklet that the switch at the top of the remote has to be switched to DVD, not TV. One thing I really liked about this unit over the TOSHIBA that I was also auditioning was that the SONY has a wonderful VHS tracking device. I played a tape on the TOSHIBA and got all kinds of wavy lines and garbage. On the SONY, the taped played perfectly.Customer Review: Sony tunerless, VHS/DVD combo

This product is a very good recorder and player with a very long life. Our recorder/player runs on an average of twelve hours a day all week long. We replace them about every four to five years. Excellent service for a machine that runs that many hours. This is why we try to locate this specific machine even if it is used and or refurbished. Price to use ratio is five out of five stars.
You will need an adapter or an outside tuner if you record off cable or satelite but these machines also come with built in tuners. We use both kinds with equal success. We even use one we bought used on eBay three years ago!

We bought this DVD/VHS recorder as an extra to play in a spare bedroom when company visits, but I use it alot also. I love this DVD/VHS player because the price is very reasonable and it was easy to set up and begin using, just a few minutes. It's easy to use the remote controls and to use the settings from menu like setting the time & recording. Very fast player when loading the dvd's & VHS tapes. Alot faster than the more expensive theatre system we have in the living room that was over 500.00 reg. price.
