Customer Review: Maybe Too Good?
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned my Sony "verticles" for a few years, now, and they are extremely fine earphones. They are light-weight, fit comfortably into the ear, like ear buds, but the headband keeps them securely on your head and in your ears. The design of the "buds" is such that you get mellow sound - nothing "tinny" about it. They seem to be built to last forever.

That much said, I have only one problem with them - I recently got a new MP3 player, plugged the Sony's into it, and nearly ruptured my eardrums with the loudness of the sound I was getting. I checked the player, and the sound level was at "1," and when I turned the sound to "0" (mute), there was no sound at all. Just to make sure the player wasn't malfunctioning, I tried the standard "cheapie" buds the player came with, and volume levels were fine. Tried another set of buds (from my Apple Shuffle), and they worked fine. The best I can figure is that the acoustic design of the Sony Vertical buds is so perfect that there is no sound loss whatsoever.

If you want to listen to your MP3's where the ambient noise is loud (a gym, or fitness center with lots of activities and motorized devices going on), there is nothing that will give you anything even close to the sound you'll get from the Sony Ultra Lighweight MDR-W08L Vertical In-The-Ear Headphones. (I still use them when I work out at on a treadmill, or when there are several people working out.)

But if you want to listen to quiet music (while reading in a library or your living room at night), try something else. These just won't work if you want background sound and nothing more.

Customer Review: Best Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

These headphones are the best things ever made!! For years I tried everything else, the hook behind the ears with buds in ears, the hook behind the ears and just rest ontop of ears, plain earbuds, the stuff that came with my cd player or ipod, or the plain old famous headphones. Basically the main problems of all these are they hurt horribly and made my ears go numb, fell out, didn't fit in the ear, or could be heard by other people when in use.

These headphones solve all those problems, they stay in, they are comfortable, and fit perfectly. In fact many times, I've forgotten I've even had them in because they are so lightweight. I've had them for several years: I've sat on them, stepped on them, threw them around in bags, basically treated them bad, and yet they stilled work until now, after several years. Finally the cord to left side came loose, but I just wiggle it around and it works. A plus is also the cord is the perfect length to fit from your ipod into your jeans, without too much leftover cord to get tangled if your walking or jogging.

These headphones are also great because the sound quality is amazing, for such small, light headphones. But also because other people can't hear what you are listening to, no matter how loud you have it. They were perfect for long car trips with the family (obviously to drown out the music from my brother's cheap headphones;) They are also great for airplanes too.

I totally recommend these headphones to everyone whenever the topic comes up, and am getting another pair, and will probably be buying these for the rest of my life!! :)

Customer Review: Great for running!
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally found a pair of headphones that won't fall out of my ears when I run! They worked so well that I set new personal bests for time and distance!

I've tried to run with my Bose ear buds (that rest in your ear), Koss ear buds, and a set of JVC over-the-ear ear buds that I bought 2 weeks ago. They all have the same problem. After about 10 minutes of running I start working up a good sweat, and once your ear gets sweaty, there's no way that an ear bud will stay in place, especially with the constant impact from running. They just start to slip out, and there isn't anything you can do to fix the problem. Having to constantly adjust a headphone of any kind while running is a major distraction, and totally takes my focus off my workout.

For under $10, the Sony MDR-W08L was a risk-free shot at solving the problem. I had a similar pair of Sony headphones about 15 years ago that had an exposed metal headband. They worked well, but the sound was marginal. That was long before I took up running. These headphones very similar, but much more stylish and with much better sound. Are they perfect? No. They don't have as much spring to the headband as I expected, but I found that once I got them adjusted for my head/ears they stayed in place. I had to adjust the bass up a bit and keep the high end flat on my MP3 player to keep them from sounding too tinny.

Once I got everything set for fit and sound, I was off and running. They didn't slide out, fall off, or require constant adjustment! I'm sooooooo glad I bought two pairs!

Customer Review: I didn't think I would- but I like them...
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the reviews here I picked up a pair of these yesterday. I have been desperately searching for some kind of small headphone to use with my mp3 player. The ones I had been using were the over the ear type, and despite having the inline volume switch set at the max- I could barely hear them.

I can't use any type of ear bud or in-ear type headphone because of my freakishly small ear canals. That type of ear phone not only doesn't stay in my ears- I can't even get them in- even with the smallest tips. One reviewer said that type was like trying to shove soda cans in his/her ears- and I completely agree. Great analogy BTW.

Anyhow I took one look at these (at a local B&M store) and thought I was going to hate them. They look weird. They look uncomfortable. The speakers are at a right angle. But I figured for ten bucks I was willing to take a chance.

I used them last night as usual in bed listening to audio books. Not only were they comfortable, and hallelujah- actually stayed put- but they were loud- much louder than my other on ear headphones. I was able to set my mp3 player on volume 10 instead of volume 30 like before.

These are basically a pair of ear buds attached to a very thin and light headband- period. But for what they are, they are loud, they are comfortable, they stay where they belong, and the sound is decent. Oh, and they're cheap too. I can't attest to their longevity, but I'm going back today to get another pair to keep as a spare.

Customer Review: Excellent Headset!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these for my Sony mini-disc player, and they are quite the powerhouse! The sound that comes out of these little guys is amazing. These little phones are a tad awkaward (FOR ME),though, because I always snag the wires on something, but it's my fault. I am never too careful with wires. Speaking of wires, the cable has a volume slide-control whuich is very convenient for when you don'r feel like pulling the player out of your pocket to turn up the volume. That is, when not using the remote.

Sony always makes good products, and like always, I am pleased with my purchase. With good compactability, I can pack these guys in my backpack, and because they are so flexible, they still retain their shape and excellent sound and performance standards.

Let's talk about bass. The bass expansion is great and because of the volume control slider, you don't have to go deaf because you forgot to turn down the volume (on your player) prior to using it.

Not only ismodel MDR08L great for MD players/recorders, but it's also great for cassette and Discman's too! Especially when you don't want a heavy, cumbersome headset weighing you down while on the go. And, the plain black color goes well with any of the portable players today.

So, for the price and the brand, get this headset or something similar by Sony today.

Hope the review helped you.
