Customer Review: Had high hopes for this purchase but...

Our four-year-old Sony began repeatedly shutting itself off and on. After about a week of this malfunction, I consulted a TV repairman who assured me that the only problem with the television was the lamp being on the verge of going out completely (which, after another week, it did - this resulted in no picture at all). After being told that the cost to replace the lamp would be $200.00 for the part PLUS labor, I decided to purchase the replacement lamp on my own and replace it myself. Couldn't beat the price I found on Amazon and installation of the lamp couldn't have been easier (as other reviewers have said, it took longer to get the lamp out of the box than it took to replace it in the TV). After replacing the lamp, the picture was bright and clear and I couldn't have been more pleased with the purchase - until a week later when the TV began shutting itself off and on again. A friend who works for an audio/video retailer suggested that I unplug the set overnight in an attempt to solve the shutting off/on problem. This actually did work for a day or two and now I'm back where I started - I turn the set on, it shuts itself off and on again - repeatedly - until I get so fed up that I simply turn off the set! I'm inclined to believe that the lamp I purchased through Amazon was not faulty but that the TV repair guy I consulted missed another problem with the set. At this point, I'm so disgusted that I haven't even attempted to learn what problem still exists with the television. I'm not happy that a Sony which is only four-years-old is in need of another repair!
