Customer Review: Sony XL-2100U replacement lamp - Very good if you chose the right vendor

The lamp of my KF-50WE610 broken during the world cup on 7/11/2010. It's about five years since I bought the TV, and it's about time it breaks, but talk about the timing! I jumped online and trying to find the replacement lamp (XL-2100U), and finally landed on Amazon. I carefully read the comments section from various users, and decide to give it a try.
Apparently, like most of you would know, when you purchase, you can click on "### new from $$$" and see all the vendors. I pay close attention NOT to choose "River Valley Electronics", as that seems to be the knock-out non-OEM version. The one I chose is "Discount DLP TV Lamps" and a little research shows it's a vendor in San Diego and do carry the genuine OEM lamp. I chose the vendor and did the check out.
I received the lamp on Tuesday afternoon. Pretty fast turn around I'd say. Followed the instruction from the TV's manual, unplug the TV, and unscrewed the two plastic screws with a quarter coin, and spend some effort taking out the front panel (this is the most difficult part. You'll have to be patient and show a little brutal). After that you'll see the plastic cover which you'd unscrew with the quarter coin. Then you'll see the old lamp which you'll need an Allen wrench to remove it. You can seethe broken filament in the old lamp.
Insert the new lamp in, screw it tight (the new lamp has regular phillip screws, so it'd be easier next time). place the plastic cover on, and plug the TV power cable in. The red steady light means you've done it correctly. Then you can put the front panel back in, and tighten the two plastic screws on the back of the TV. Fire up the TV and all is good. The color is much brighter than just before it breaks. The fresh lamp does make a difference. I praise Sony to make the replacement so easy. I've heard the newer models are even easier to change, as front panels are held in place with magnets instead of sockets.
So, key point is that don't choose the cheapest vendor. Do your research and choose the vendor that's trustworthy.
