My 50" Sony projecting tv's picture was getting so dim and dull I was sure I would soon be forced to purchase a new one. Times are such that a major purchase was out of the questions. After doing some on-line research, I decided to try replacing the bulb. I found one on Amazon and placed my order late one evening. The most remarkable thing about this purchase is that it arrived in less than 24 hours! Replacement was a 10 minute procedure and the results are amazing. My Sony's picture is revitilized and I can put off buying that replacement! One word of advice, there are many bulbs out there, so be sure to order one with the EXACT same letter designation as the original (see your owner's manual).Customer Review: Not too hard to do but careful with the front plate

I ordered this from River Valley Electronics. It came in just a couple of days even though I didn't pay for express shipping. The product worked just fine. However, it didn't have the metric hex wrench included - fortunately I had one. The replacement bulb has a traditional screw head and didn't need a hex wrench, but I did need one to take the old one out.
The front TV plate on mine took a little while to remove - me not wanting to break it by appying too much pressure - also the new bulb doesn't come with any directions so hopefully you have your original owner's manual for bulb replacement.
Its an easy procedure and the new picture quality is as good as ever.

I cannot agree more with a previous reviewer: spend the few $$ more on a Sony brand lamp.
First, the bulb is noticeably brighter than some generics. Further, you can expect longer bulb life.
The same factory probably sells off-brand lamps from the same production line...problem is you can never know for sure the origin of a generic. My experience with brand vs. the generic make of this lamp has been to rely on the former.
Also, do yourself a favor and clean out the fan fixture when you change lamps. It will prolong lamp life.
Installation is a simple self explanatory task. The appropriate wrench tool is included with the lamp.

Ordered the product from Vann's ... the discounted price (40 less than the Sony store) more than made up for the cost of expedited shipping. Received it in 2 days. Took less than 10 min to install with no tools other than the included allen wrench. Some reviewers are right about the amount of force needed to get the panel off ... it's a little unnerving. The panel is plastic and snaps firmly into clips.
I don't get the reviewers that are angry that the lamp needed replacing in the first place. The need for a new bulb every few years is a known issue with this type of TV. It was pretty inexpensive for a good quality HD TV, right? There's no free lunch!

After calling around to Best Buy and other big box stores and finding out my burned out lamp was not available there, I heard from a friend that they got their replacement lamp through Amazon.com. Took me awhile to find out exactly which model lamp I needed, but when I did it was easy to order it online. I refused to pay nearly $50 for expedited shipping, so I expected a long wait for delivery. The lamp actually came in the time the expedited shipping would have come! I ordered the cage with the lamp, so it was a matter of just snapping it in and closing up the TV panel. It came right on and the LCD TV looks great once again! Thanks, Amazon!
