After five years of excellent service, my 50" Sony TV finally quit on me due to a blown bulb. I bought the replacement bulb from Vanns and successfully resurrected it! After about a week without TV, needless to say the new bulb seems to be producing super bring color on my TV.
It is easy to replace the bulb. The only trick is that if you want to test before fully reassembling it back, you need to make sure the the little cover is put back on, otherwise, a small sensing tab is not depressed and the TV won't turn on. I was worried that I might have got a dud, but visited the troubleshooting section of the owner's manual and finally figured it out.
Although everything worked out, I still think the bulb is way over priced. Why would a simple bulb with a simple metal housing costs close to one hundred sixty bucks?

I ordered the lamp from "shipitnow" a good company to deal with. Quick delievery time. Would of being nice to have the allen wrench that the other companies supplied with the lamp. But the price was good.
as far as replaceing the lamp yourself. it was easy it took me about half hour from start to turning the tv on and watching a movie. The hardest thing to do, was to repve the front cover. It snaps on to the main body with five positions. it seems like it does not want to come off, but it will. from there it is simple. i would suggest using gloves not to touch the bulb. it is will worth doing your self as to hiring a repair man.

This was supposed to be an identical replacement for the original Philips that came with the TV. However, what I got was a substitute which, according to other on-line reviews is not comparable or as good as the Original Philips replacement. However, I have not experienced any issues with this replacement and it was extremely easy to replace.
Only gave it 4 stars becasue the information presented does not specifically state that when you purchase the item you are NOT getting an original replacement but a substitute item which may be inferior to the original Philips lamb.

I was happy that this item shipped quickly and was received quickly. The price was really good, although I think I would have been more confident if the lamp was the OEM one manufactured by Phillips as opposed to the Osram version, which for all I know is also considered OEM. The setup was a breeze. My TV works as good as ever. Assuming that this lamp lasts as long as the original (6.5 years), I will be happy with the savings.Customer Review: works well in a Sony VEGA TV as intended ...

As a replacement for a 8 or 9 year old Sony VEGA TV, the unit work as expected. Replacement steps were well diagramed, though the pressure snaps were tricky to undo and fit back on.
